A Great Year for Master Gardeners at the Lawrence Farmer’s Market

Master Gardeners shared facts and answered questions at the Lawrence Farmer’s Market.

Each year the Douglas County Master Gardeners have a booth at the Lawrence Farmer’s Market. It is to provide information to visitors about the program and to disseminate helpful facts for all gardeners. For 2012 the idea was to take gardening categories and use those as themes each week at the market. Master Gardeners with interests in those areas would be on-hand to talk with visitors and share their passion and expertise with the public. Here’s a brief summary of the year’s activities from Kate Forinash. Kate, along with Wendy Shoemaker and Terry Smith coordinated the program and set themes and recruited Master Gardeners to help at the market.

” A Fantastic Summer and Fall for Douglas County Extension Master Gardeners at the Lawrence Farmer’s Market: 37 EMGs volunteered over 25 Saturdays from May 5th to October 27th; 1688 contacts, 129 new subscribers to the Horticultural Newsletter; several new EMG recruits. Fantastic Crew!! Great Fun!! Thanks to all – see you again next year!!

Kudos to the coordinators and all the volunteers that helped!
