Powell Gardens

Join us on Saturday, September 19 in the Dreher Building, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper in Lawrence. Our Advanced Education program will be “Collections at Powell Gardens” by Alan Branhagen, Director of Horticulture at Powell Gardens since December, 1996. The program will run from 10:00-11:30am.

The program will be “20,000 plant records and counting!” Powell Gardens didn’t even have 3,000 in their collection in 1996. The gardens display a full line of ornamental and edible plants throughout its gardens on 970 acres. Major collections include native trees of Missouri and Kansas, the Genus Magnolia, conifers, Merit Award tall bearded iris (the official flower of Kansas City), and the most comprehensive display of edible plants outside a research station.

We are honored to have Mr. Branhagen come and share his knowledge and the background on Powell Gardens. This session will be open to the public.
